Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2 Full Version

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2 full version

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 is an operating system that was released by Microsoft in 1996. It was the successor of Windows NT 3.x and the predecessor of Windows 2000. Windows NT 4.0 introduced a new graphical user interface, based on the Windows 95 shell, and improved performance and stability. Windows NT 4.0 supported multiple processor architectures, such as x86, Alpha, Pentium Pro, and PowerPC.

Service Pack 2 (SP2) was the second major update for Windows NT 4.0, released in December 1996. It included several bug fixes and security enhancements, as well as new features and components. Some of the notable changes in SP2 were:

  • The addition of Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) version 3.0, a web server that enabled hosting and managing websites on Windows NT 4.0 machines.

  • The inclusion of Microsoft FrontPage 97 for Windows NT Server, a web authoring tool that allowed creating and editing web pages using a graphical interface.

  • The integration of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 3.0 for NT, a web browser that offered improved support for HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • The support for the FAT32 file system, which enabled using larger hard disk partitions and files than the previous FAT16 file system.

  • The implementation of the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), which enabled creating secure virtual private networks (VPNs) over the Internet.

  • The enhancement of the Remote Access Service (RAS), which enabled dialing into a Windows NT 4.0 server or workstation from a remote location.

  • The improvement of the Plug and Play (PnP) functionality, which enabled detecting and configuring hardware devices automatically.

SP2 was available as a standalone installer, which could be downloaded from the Microsoft website or obtained from a CD-ROM . The full version of SP2 required about 170 MB of disk space and could be installed on any Windows NT 4.0 system, regardless of the previous service pack level. SP2 also included all the updates and fixes from SP1, which was released in October 1996.

SP2 was followed by SP3 in May 1997, which added more bug fixes and security patches, as well as support for the Euro currency symbol and the year 2000 compliance. The last service pack for Windows NT 4.0 was SP6a, released in November 1999, which addressed some compatibility issues with third-party software and hardware.

Windows NT 4.0 was officially retired by Microsoft in June 2004, after eight years of service. It was replaced by Windows 2000, which was based on the same kernel but offered more features and stability. Windows NT 4.0 is still used by some legacy applications and systems that require its specific functionality or compatibility.
